Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy Download the full Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy 92 page report.
This report is a frank disclosure of exactly how Wheat Ridge compares with surrounding communities and also a path to strengthening the community by building on Wheat Ridge’s many assets. In December, 2004, the City Council authorized a Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy (NRS) study to be conducted to evaluate the state of the city; our population and household trends, jobs and retail sales trends, housing market and commercial inventory. The City Council took on this effort in an attempt to address issues being faced by the community and to restore the city to a community of choice for homeowners and businesses.
The City Council, staff, and a team of consultants worked for seven months to prepare the NRS and recommendations. The process has been intensive and inclusive. There were numerous events and actions to assure broad awareness in, and input from, the community.
On July 25, 2006, the City Council adopted a resolution accepting the neighborhood revitalization strategy report, Repositioning Wheat Ridge, and adopted its findings and recommendations as guiding principles for subsequent city-regulated development.
At the July 25 meeting, City Council also approved start-up funding to advance the NRS recommendations and strategies. This funding was designated for Wheat Ridge 2020, the City’s new non-profit partner in helping to create a vibrant and sustainable community. |
