More frequent member meetings a part of new meeting policy for WR2020

Recently the Board of WR2020 unanimously approved a new meeting format.  The new format is to hold monthly Board working meetings and quarterly Board and Member meetings.  There are many reasons for the need of this new format, but the two most important are as follows:

1.  Wheat Ridge 2020 is a Private Corporation that deals with confidential information.

2. Currently few members are attending the Board meetings, and the Wheat Ridge 2020 Board felt that the membership deserves greater opportunity to participate in an organized fashion.  Therefore the establishment of quarterly meetings with time allotted for member comment and participation will provide all members with an opportunity to come to a Board meeting and participate, hopefully with regularity, 4 times a year.

Confidentiality
Wheat Ridge 2020 is a private corporation, and needs to maintain confidentiality to implement the NRS strategies in a quick and efficient manner. The Board discusses confidential and sensitive information about pending real estate transactions, pending program initiatives, pending loans, and other confidential matters at Board meetings.  These matters are not appropriate for public dissemination to the entire membership, and general public, until approvals are made, or plans are developed, and authorized by the Board.  At all times, the matters discussed in confidence are consistent with the Mission of WR2020 and directly related to the 9 strategies of the NRS that WR2020 is commissioned to implement as defined on page 34 of the NRS.

Member Participation
WR2020 has 100 Voting members and more than 100 General (non-voting or Friends) members.  It is important to have member participation in an open forum with the Board.  In an effort to maximize the members’ opportunity to participate and address the Board with respect to the implementation of the NRS, we need to get greater participation from all the members.   The concept of hosting 4 quarterly Board and Member meetings will allow the members to schedule and plan to attend and participate.

The Board of WR2020 hopes that this new meeting format will engage greater member participation and have more members attend the quarterly meetings.

The scheduled quarterly Board and Member meeting dates for the next year are:
September 25, 2007
November 10, 2007  (Annual Meeting)
February 26, 2008
June 24, 2008
September 23, 2008.

We look forward to your participation.

Taste of the Arts Street Festival on September 15 - FREE T-shirt

As a part of revitalizing the 38th Avenue corridor, Wheat Ridge 2020 is a partner in the Taste of the Arts Street Festival. On Saturday, September 15, 38th Ave will be closed to traffic between Pierce and Upham and instead you will find a car show, arts & crafts displays, folk dancing, and the suburban art forest. Live entertainment will be featured, including the Colcannon Celtic Band. Stop by for food and refreshment, arts, and fellowship in the heart of Wheat Ridge. The festival will be open 9am-10pm.

As a partner in a vibrant Wheat Ridge, WR2020 provided an event coordinator for this event and is encouraging all of our members to attend. There will be FREE Taste of the Arts t-shirts available to be picked up at the WR2020 offices. Over 100 t-shirts will be available to the first members who stop in. Stay tuned to your email to learn when the t-shirts are in.

The Taste of the Arts committee is looking for volunteers to assist with the Festival. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Kelby Kaufman at 303.210.6039 or kelby@momentoushappenings.com
