WR2020 will have a panel of landscape professionals to make these grant selections. Applications are due May 25, 2007. Frontyard Landscape Renovation Grant Application 2007 The first WR2020 Landscape Renovation small grant was awarded to a Wheat Ridge family at 8730 West 34th Ave in 2006. This year's Tree-a-thon service area is from Sheridan to Teller and 38th to 44th Avenues. Call the office to sign up to receive a tree. Past ActivitiesWheat Ridge 2020 Tree-a-Thon 2006 Saturday, June 24, 2006 Wheat Ridge has a proud tradition as Tree City USA and now has many dead or dying trees (elms, etc) because of recent stress & infestations. WR2020 voting member, Steve Allen, owns a tree farm in Grand Junction (www.TreePlantation.com) and offered trees to WR2020 for the cost of digging and shipping.
The initial WR2020 project of 150 trees served the neighborhood bounded by 38th / 32nd / Sheridan Avenues and Pierce Street . Trees were delivered curbside on 35th Avenue to those homeowners or renters with owner permission who reserved their tree on a first come first served basis & who had pre-dug their hole. The initial assortment of trees, all that do well in Colorado, included large shade trees in the following quantities- Ashes (Autumn Purple (17), Marshall Seedless (30), Patmore (17) Bur Oak (5), Lanceleaf Cottonwood (14), Hackberry (20) & Honey locust (8). Also available were smaller ornamental trees such as various crab trees (Adams (5), Indian Magic (2), Royalty (10), Spring Snow (17)) and some fruitless Newport Plums (5).
A suggested donation of $25 to WR2020 was accepted to help continue the project throughout Wheat Ridge.
